Tbilisi trips from Amman

Tbilisi is the easiest way into the Caucasus — a river city of carved wooden balconies, sulphur baths under brick domes and a cable car swinging up to Narikala Fortress, with snow-capped mountains a day's drive away. Georgian hospitality is famous, the pace is relaxed, and the city suits families and couples alike; our team can point you to restaurants serving halal food. Eight days lets you base yourself in Tbilisi for the old town, Mtskheta and Kazbegi, then add Borjomi's forests or a few nights on the Black Sea in Batumi.

Highlights

What you'll see

Old Tbilisi & the sulphur baths

Cobbled lanes, balconied houses and the domed baths of Abanotubani, where the city began. Book a private room for a proper soak.

Narikala Fortress & cable car

Ride from Rike Park over the river to the old fortress walls for the city's best panorama, especially at dusk.

Mtskheta

Georgia's ancient capital, half an hour from Tbilisi: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery above the meeting of two rivers. UNESCO-listed.

Kazbegi & Gergeti Trinity Church

The Georgian Military Road climbs past Ananuri fortress and Gudauri to the church standing beneath Mount Kazbek.

Borjomi

A spa town in pine forest, famous for its mineral water: a park walk, a cable car and cooler air in summer.

Rustaveli Avenue & the Bridge of Peace

Tbilisi's grand avenue of theatres and cafés, then the glass Bridge of Peace and Rike Park lit up at night.

When to Go

Seasonal guide

Tbilisi works for most of the year; match the season to the trip you want. April – June: green hills, mild days and the mountain roads reopening — our favourite. July – August: hot in the city, so plan mountain days in Kazbegi and Borjomi; peak season for Jordanian and Gulf families, so book early. September – October: warm days, harvest season and autumn colours in the valleys. November – March: cold, quieter and better value in the city; ski season in Gudauri, though mountain roads can close after heavy snow.
