Cairo & the Nile trips from Amman

Cairo is one of the great capitals of the Arab world — the Pyramids of Giza on its edge, a thousand minarets above Islamic Cairo and the Nile running through it all. Egypt feels familiar to travellers from Jordan: the same language, a short flight and food you already love, done the Egyptian way. Seven days lets you see Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum, walk Al-Muizz Street and Khan el-Khalili, sail a felucca at sunset, and add Alexandria or a few nights on a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan.

When to Go

Seasonal guide

October – April: the best months, sunny and comfortable for Giza and Upper Egypt, with December and January the busiest. May – June: getting hot, so start sightseeing early. July – August: very hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan; keep sightseeing to mornings and evenings, or add the Mediterranean breeze of Alexandria. Ramadan evenings in Cairo are special, with a lively atmosphere after iftar.
